Clinical Treatment
Despite recent advances in the treatment of depression and other psychiatric disorders, many still suffer from mental illness. This is often due to one not responding to traditional treatments or inadequate access to quality healthcare.
At Psychiatric Medicine Associates, LLC (PMA), we provide novel treatment options through clinical trials for illnesses like major depressive disorder (MDD), bipolar disorder and anxiety disorders. Some of our studies involve medications that are not yet available on the market while others involve drugs currently on the market but have not yet been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat the condition for which it is being studied.
Research
We conduct clinical trials for mood and anxiety disorders. These are medication studies where subjects are monitored very closely for both symptom response and safety. In most trials, patients are seen weekly with visits generally lasting 30-60 minutes. Many of the medications we study are already FDA approved but have returned to clinical trials in order to be studied for a new indication. All medications we study have passed phase-I, human safety testing.
All of your personal, identifiable information is held in the strictest of confidence. Your healthcare information is safer through clinical research because your identifying information is not released to insurance companies or outside vendors like laboratories as it is with doctors visits or hospital stays. Participation is voluntary, meaning you may withdraw at any time. Study participation requires no insurance or payment by the patient. Most studies provide a small stipend for travel generally paid upon study completion.
Study visits take place at our office at 4711 Golf Road, Suite 1200 in Skokie. Subjects who participate receive all study related procedures at no cost. This usually includes, among other things, lab work (blood and urine collection), physical exams, vital signs and an electrocardiogram (ECG) in order to maintain safety and come to the proper diagnosis. We will gladly give you a copy of your lab results and/or ECG for your records. Those who complete a study may be offered 90-days of no-charge follow-up care by our staff as a means of seeking an effective treatment to address mood symptoms.
The foregoing description is meant to provide a general idea of what it is like participating in research at our clinic. For specific information, or if you are interested in participating in a study, please call us at 847-679-8000 or email us at pma.psycsolutions@gmail.com. During the call, we will ask questions to determine if you qualify for one of our current studies (e.g., your age, your current diagnosis, past/current medication(s), etc). If qualified, we will schedule an in-office pre-screening appointment for you. This will allow us to evaluate your symptoms and will give you a chance to meet our staff and view our facility.
Please note that while we are involved in research, we are also a private practice. If you are interested in scheduling a consultation with Dr. John Zajecka or Ian Mackey, or would like to learn more about our pricing, please call us at 847-679-8000 for more information.
